Planning Your Trip

When Is the Best Time to Go?

East Africa's wildlife doesn't take a season off — but timing your visit can transform your experience.

🌦️ July – October · The Dry Season

Peak game viewing across all parks. The Great Migration river crossings happen in the Maasai Mara and northern Serengeti. Vegetation is low, making animals easier to spot at waterholes.

Best for Migration Dry, Cooler

🌿 November – March · Green Season

Lush landscapes, newborn animals, and far fewer tourists. Excellent for bird watching. Some roads become challenging but the experience can feel wonderfully exclusive.

Best for Birds Fewer Crowds

🦍 Year-Round · Gorilla Trekking

Mountain gorilla permits are available year-round. The dry seasons (June–Sept and Dec–Feb) offer easier trekking through the forest, but the experience is extraordinary in any season.

Uganda & Rwanda All Year

🌊 October – March · Island Season

The best time for Zanzibar and Mafia Island — warm Indian Ocean waters, sunshine, and whale shark sightings at their peak from October through February.
